To trend or not to trend?

Hey beauties, I hope you're all well.
This post is aimed at helping you make decisions when it comes to 'trend' purchases.

As most of us know, the fashion world is heavily ruled by fashion trends and the need to always be on trend. You see celebs wear it, you see it in magazines but most of all, it's all you see in the shops.

As an image consultant I spend a lot of my time encouraging and helping ladies discover their own STYLE. This is so important, because quite frankly what's in today will most certainly be out tomorrow and even if it comes back into fashion it will still go out for a period of time, before coming back in. So here are some tips to help you not get lost in the trend rut. Now I'm not saying don't buy things that are on trend, however I do believe building a timeless wardrobe is more important and any item bought on trend should help to fit that mould. After all you don't want to buy something that you love today because it's on trend and totally hate next year because it's no longer 'in'.

TIPS:
1. Focus on building a capsule wardrobe . A capsule wardrobe is a wardrobe built around your style, lifestyle, body shape etc, so it's personal to you. A capsule wardrobe would include staples and other pieces that enable you to constantly have lots to wear without the overload of clothes.

2. Pick trends that you can see being a timeless piece in YOUR closet. An example of this would be the monochrome trend. Black and white will never go out of fashion so you can be rest assured that any item you buy consisting of black and white can definitely be worn many years down the line and still look trendy.

3.Before buying an item just because it's on trend, try to think up at least 3 different ways in which you can wear the item, so you know it will be versatile and you can get a lot of wear out of the item. If you can't wear this item in more than one way the chances are you won't want it in a few months, or you will waste money buying new clothes to compliment the outfit.

This post is in no way trying to say don't purchase on trend pieces, because trends are great in the fashion world, but depending on trends can be a waste of money and leads to the 'having loads of clothes with nothing to wear' crisis. Depending on trends will also stop you from discovering your style and standing out in a unique way. Incorporating trends into your wardrobe and making them blend with your style means that you could in fact be the next trendsetter. Remember that you make the outfit and the outfit doesn't make you.

Here are some trends that stand out this SS13:

These trends are very chic, sophisticated and stylish. They're nice and clean for the Spring/Summer months, and they make a fashionable statement without making too much of a statement  (if you get what that means).

Here is a lovely quote to sum up fashion and style "Fashions fade, style is eternal" - Yves Saint Laurent
